Michael Stewart is winning his race to be fit to face Motherwell this weekend, caretaker boss Stephen Frail revealed today.

The midfielder missed Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Celtic after injuring his hamstring in training but his manager is confident he'll be in the frame for a return to action at Fir Park.

Michael has been receiving treatment this week at the Hearts Football Academy and should return to the training ground tomorrow as preparations are stepped up for the visit to Lanarkshire.

"Michael will hopefully be back training tomorrow, which is good," said the Hearts caretaker boss.

"He felt his hamstring after training last week and couldn't make the Celtic game. But if he does train as expected then he'll have a chance for Motherwell, which is another very important game for us."

Yesterday's SPL Reserve League clash with Rangers at Forthbank was postponed, scuppering Ibrahim Tall's hopes of a return to competitive action.

Tall scores for Hearts

The defender hasn't played since injuring his hamstring in the closing stages of the league game against Falkirk in December and had been hoping to use the second-string outing to stake his claim for a first-team return.

"The call-off was a blow for him," added Stephen. "He hasn't played for a while and I'd now say it is unlikely he will feature at Motherwell.

"There were a few others who would have benefited from yesterday's game but they had a good training session and we worked hard on a few things."
