Gary's delight at first team chance
Stephen Frail said he would give young players a chance between now and the end of the season - but only if they were good enough.
And that mantle proved to be spot on as the interim boss plucked Gary Glen from the U19s on Saturday afternoon.
The young hitman produced a sparkling performance in what was a first start to remember against St Mirren on Saturday.
The 18-year-old was blasted into the public spotlight after confident display, and equally well-taken goal that earned him a warm ovation from the Tynecastle crowd when he was substituted six minutes from time.
For Gary there was a little irony that Hearts' status in the lower half of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League is one of the reasons that he's been given an opportunity - not that he wouldn't have got it, eventually!
"It was a big blow for the club but we have to take the five games that we have got and just win them," he said last night.
"It is a good opportunity for the young boys to come in and get a game and I was fortunate to get that chance.
"It was a good opportunity to show what I can do, and I am delighted to have had that chance.
"I have been playing 19s and reserves and the pace was a lot faster - higher tempo - than the reserves and 19s.
"Shaggy knows what kind of player I am from working with the 19s and he has got that confidence in me."
