Steve Banks today insisted Hearts can have a successful campaign next season provided lessons are learned from the mistakes made over the past nine months.

A poor first half of the season ultimately consigned the Gorgie side to a bottom six finish in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, although it's not all doom and gloom according to the Tynecastle No. 1.

"It's been a bit of roller-coaster for us," he said. " Some good times and some bad times.

"However, we have probably come out with a little silver lining with the way some of the young boys have come through, the performances of the last three or four months and the results.

"Hopefully we are on our way back up and I'd like to think we can finish on a high ready to start on a high next season.

"There's no way we want to go through the downs we had this season but if we can learn from them then hopefully we'll have more ups than downs next season.

"It's easy blaming other people but it's being able to look in the mirror and blame yourself some times. That can be hard to do but if you can do that and learn from it, you can become a better player and better person."

The Englishman was speaking at the Press conference ahead of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League meeting with Kilmarnock.

The match is Hearts' final home game of the season and the keeper is looking forward to the next campaign, regardless of whether a permanent manager has been installed or not.

He said: "Hopefully we have a good pre-season and continuity throughout the season. No matter who the manager is, I'll go out and give 100 per cent. It doesn't make any difference to me.

"I am a player-coach, will continue to work with the keepers here and I'll be doing everything I can to make sure that whoever plays, is ready. Similarly I'll be doing everything I can to make sure I'm 100 per cent ready as well."
