Thanks to everyone - Robbie
Robbie Neilson last night looked back fondly on a special day at Tynecastle after the current Hearts team edged out a Cup Winners select in a seven goal thriller.
The long serving defender, granted a testimonial match by the club, enjoyed netting from the penalty spot as his hero team battled back from initially going three down.
"It was good, I enjoyed it," he said. "It was a good day. I was nervous in the build up hoping it would go well. We had a few call offs but it turned out well in the end. I enjoyed it and hope everyone else enjoyed it.
"It was a good turn out from the fans after a disappointing season. It was brilliant to see all the fans all turn up."
For Robbie he knew many of the guys he played with in the Cup Winners Select, however some less so a decade on from the 1998 victory.
"You see them in the Gorgie Suite and around the club but when you meet them in the dressing room it is completely different," he grinned. It was a good atmosphere!
"All the physios and the masseurs were there to so it really took us back to the old days!
"It was good to see Gary Mackay come on and my mate Alan Robson, the masseur here who is a good mate of mine."
Robbie also highlighted the part his family have played in his career, his proud partner Julie and their children Eva and Ruby watching on from the directors' box.
"Not many people do it nowadays but it was great to be recognised and great for my family who were up in the directors' box," he said. "It was the first time they have been up there so it was a great day out for them."
He was just thankful that John Robertson did not try and nab his spot-kick! "I was waiting to see him come on and take it out of my hand," Robbie added.
"He was desperate for a goal and he was close [near the end]. It would have been great if he was able to get it, but I think he and all the boys enjoyed themselves."
