HNT: Steve's playing for keeps
Hearts No. 1 Steve Banks has revealed he wants to finish his career at Tynecastle.
The shot-stopper initially arrived in Gorgie three years ago as back-up to Craig Gordon and having signed a new two-year contract at the beginning of the year, he's looking forward to seeing out his playing days in the Capital.
Currently combining his playing responsibilities with coaching duties, the Englishman is loving life at Tynecastle.
"I'd like to finish my career at Hearts," said the 36-year-old former West Ham, Bradford, Bolton, Gillingham, Wimbledon, Stoke and Blackpool keeper.
"I feel physically fitter than I have done for a long time and mentally I feel better than ever, which is a major thing for me as goalkeeping is about mental stability and how you approach games.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hearts, have made a lot of friends within the club and am quite settled where I'm living so was quite happy to extend my stay.
"If I keep in shape physically, I don't see any reason why I can't play on for a while yet."
Steve was speaking exclusively in the latest edition of thebeat magazine. Read his frank and revealing interview in full in Issue 6, which is due out shortly.
