The way in which Eggert Jonsson breezed around a ropes course nearly 60 feet in the air Sunday past says everything about the ice-cool Icelandic international.

As he always does, he took the challenge on with a calm sense of purpose. Now he hopes to apply that virtue again in the season ahead, in order to step forward once more.

"The assault course was great," he said. "We just went climbing and it was a good laugh but it was also hard as well. Some of the boys didn't want to go up because they were too scared.

"We were very high off the ground and that was quite scary for some but not me. I think it was quite easy and I enjoyed it!"

But as the midfielder revealed, it was not easy for everyone. "A storm came on then people got a lot more scared," he grinned. "It was thundering and lightening but they were frightened.

"There was one man on the backroom staff that got caught up there. He did a lot of tough stuff and then he got stuck and the doctor had to get him down to lie down.

"There were no wind ups. Most of the boys were on the ground shouting stuff, but it easy to speak on the ground and don't do it!"

Of course the day out was designed to foster team spirit - which is already fantastic ahead of the new season.

"We do have a really good team spirit and that helps going onto the pitch," the 21-year-old said.

"It would help to do something like this every few months. That makes you laugh and have a good time. You can't do anything better."

Meanwhile, the former Iceland youth skier has been sweeping up at the poker table over the last week. And with numbers and challenges growing he's knocking everyone out of his way - a bit like the challenge of establishing himself at Hearts!

"It is the more for the banter among the young players. Hopefully my good luck will continue this season.

"I need to keep improving and hopefully this season I can. This was my first season I broke into the first team and I played a lot of games.

"This was my first full cap for the Iceland team as well. I need to keep working hard to improve and this can be a big season for me. After last season I need to work harder to keep my place.

"We have got a new manager so that is going to be really good for the competition. The manager has helped the team to work on things and shape. We are a lot more organised from what we were before.

"We do a lot more tactical stuff and he takes you aside. He has a good relationship with the players, which is a really good thing."
