A versatile stopper who can play in central defence or at full-back, but this season, he has also proved very effective in a midfield holding role.

Christos comes from Serres in Macedonia and played at the top level with the most popular club in that part of Greece, PAOK of Thessaloniki, where he came through the youth system. He also gained valuable experience on loan to both AO Kavala and AO Kerkyra.

The former U21 and Olympic International signed a three year contract with Heart of Midlothian in July 2006 and took a while to settle, after making his debut on 9 August against AEK Athens in the Champions League.

Christos also lost four months of last season, following a knee injury at the end of August that eventually required surgery. He returned to the team in January 2008 and turned in steady and increasingly effective performances at the back.

This term new manager Csaba Laszlo has used the Greek ball winner further forward and Christos has become an important member of the midfield section, where his strength and consistency are huge assets. He also brings experience into the team and has leadership qualities.
