Lee was a left winger when he joined Hearts from Salvesen Boys Club after leaving Forrester High School. However, he has developed into a very promising wing-back who has great energy on the left flank and constantly supports the attack with runs and crosses. This was underlined in the Scottish Cup fourth-round replay at Kilmarnock on 16 February 2005 when Lee ran seventy yards to score his first competitive goal for Hearts and set the team on the road to victory.
The composed and tenacious defender then earned a regular place in George Burley's squad, and continuously demonstrated the ability to play a ball-winning role either in midfield or defence. International honours have followed, with the youngster having played for Scotland in the 2006 European U19 Championship final before progressing to the national U21 side.
